LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Showtime has picked up a new television series based on the acclaimed Australian crime drama "Animal Kingdom."
The Hollywood Reporter said the planned series joins the lineup of original series being put together by Showtime's new leader, David Nevis, who is expanding the cable network's scope beyond the popular "Weeds" and "Nurse Jackie."
The movie version of "Animal Kingdom" came out last year and won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. It revolves around an Australian family of career criminals who live life as normally as possible while dodging the law.
The Reporter said the film's writers will be part of the script team along with John Wells, who will double as executive producer.
There was no word on when the series will debut.
