LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The Producers Guild of America says it plans to honor Angelina Jolie's directorial debut "In the Land of Blood and Honey" with the 2012 Stanley Kramer Award.

The film's producers, including Jolie, will be presented with the prize at the 23rd annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony Jan. 21 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

The Stanley Kramer Award was established in 2002 to honor a motion picture, producer or other individual whose achievement or contribution illuminates provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion, the guild said.

"'In the Land of Blood and Honey' is an extraordinary film that portrays a complex love story set against the terrors of the Bosnian War, especially towards women," Producers Guild Presidents Hawk Koch and Mark Gordon said in a statement Tuesday. "This film truly embraces the legacy of Stanley Kramer."

"We are extremely honored that the guild has chosen to recognize our film," producers Jolie, Tim Headington, Graham King and Tim Moore said in a joint statement. "We are truly privileged to join the ranks of past recipients and to be associated with the great Stanley Kramer."

Kramer's films include "The Defiant Ones," "On the Beach," "Inherit the Wind," "Judgment at Nuremberg," "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World," "Ship of Fools" and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner."
