BERLIN, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen has been named the winner of an honorary award for European Achievement in World Cinema, the European Film Academy in Germany said.
Mikkelsen, 45, made his film debut in 1996 in the crime film "Pusher" and shot to fame as a Bond villain in "Casino Royale." He currently appears as Rochefort in Paul W.S. Anderson's "The Three Musketeers."
"There is very little to say when you are honored with an award of this caliber other than that I am deeply grateful," Mikkelsen said in a statement. "Seeing the list of former recipients, all giants, and realizing that people outside my family keep an eye on my work, makes me accept this award with great humbleness and a big smile."
Mikkelsen will be an honored at the 24th European Film Awards Ceremony on Dec. 3 in Berlin.
