LAS VEGAS, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Bidding on an autographed script for "The Godfather," featured on TV's "Pawn Stars," has reached $4,000, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada said.
Diane Hutton, who works at the secondhand store where the screenplay was found in a carton of discarded books, rejected an offer of $500 from the stars of "Pawn Stars" because she felt the leather-bound volume could raise more money for the organization.
The Las Vegas Sun said the publicity surrounding the piece of movie memorabilia has driven up the bidding price. The item will be sold Feb. 9 at the group's Heart of Hope fundraiser.
"I'm very taken with the effectiveness of Catholic Charities and what they've accomplished in Nevada," producer Al Ruddy, who signed the script, told the Sun Wednesday. "Whatever I can do to facilitate helping people in desperate need, I'm more than happy."
Ruddy also donated some photos from the movie shoot and has taped a thank-you video for its new owner, the Sun said.
Signature authenticator John Reznikoff, who initially said on "Pawn Stars" he thought "Godfather" actor Al Pacino had signed the screenplay, has acknowledged his mistake and donated $1,000 to Catholic Charities to make up for it.
"Everyone makes mistakes," Reznikoff told the newspaper. "The issue is what you do after you make the mistake."
