LOS ANGELES, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Renowned Hollywood filmmaker Martin Scorsese is to pen a monthly column for TCM's Now Playing Guide and tcm.com, the cable network said Monday.

Scorsese, who recently took home an Emmy Award for directing the pilot for HBO's "Boardwalk Empire," will provide insight on the various films and programs on the TCM schedule. He is best known for his movies "Mean Streets," "Raging Bull," "Taxi Driver," "Goodfellas," "Gangs of New York," "The Aviator," "The Departed" and "Shutter Island."

Scorsese's first column on the network's monthly programming has been posted on tcm.com.

"Martin Scorsese is a master filmmaker with an immense passion for movies, an encyclopedic knowledge of film history and a ceaseless dedication to preserving the world's cinematic heritage," Dennis Adamovich, senior vice president of brand and digital activation/general manager of festivals for TCM, TBS and TNT, said in a statement Monday. "We are proud of our partnership with The Film Foundation in bringing Scorsese's unique voice to TCM's community of fans."
