SACRAMENTO, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- A former gay porn star was convicted by a California jury this week of attempted murder for hitting his ex-girlfriend over the head with a toilet-lid tank.
Marc Anthony Donais, 45, West Sacramento, faces 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on Dec. 9.
Attorney Johnny Griffin told the Sacramento Bee his client was "extremely disappointed" by the jury's verdict.
The New York Daily News said Saturday that Donais, the leading man in a nine homosexual X-rated movies in the 1990s under the screen name Ryan Idol, was apparently in the midst of a break-up with his girlfriend after he was caught in a compromising position with another man.
Donais, who went on to perform in legitimate Broadway plays, argued in court that he was acting in self-defense when the woman, whose name was not released, pulled a knife on him in the 2009 incident.
