'Apes' again takes No. 1 weekend spot

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," with James Franco and Freida Pinto, led the U.S. box office for the second straight weekend with $27.5 million.

Last weekend, the film took in $54 million.

"The Help," with Emma Stone and Bryce Dallas Howard, was a close No. 2 with more than $25.52 million.

All studio estimates of gross U.S. box office receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Final Destination 5" was third with $18.4 million; "The Smurfs" fourth with $13.5 million; "30 Minutes or Less" fifth with $13 million; "Cowboys & Aliens" sixth with more than $7.61 million; "Captain America: The First Avenger" seventh with more than $7.12 million; "Crazy, Stupid, Love" eighth with $6.93 million; and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" ninth with more than $6.87 million.

"The Change-Up" was 10th with more than $6.21 million.
