Cross-country drive on 2 gallons of gas
SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 18 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Tim Robbins has announced a concert tour to support his album, "Tim Robbins and the Rogues Gallery Band," which is set for release this week.
429 Records said the album is to go on sale Tuesday.
The 50-year-old star of "Mystic River," "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Bull Durham" has booked appearances on "Late Show with David Letterman" July 25 and "The View" July 26 to support his first album, his label said.
His father, Gilbert Robbins, was part of the folk ensemble The Highwaymen in the early 1960s.
"My first desire to perform came from watching him on stage. I remember it as so intoxicating," Robbins said in a statement Monday. "Audiences were encouraged to sing along and be part of the event. That is a relationship I've been seeking all my life, that alchemy between performer and audience."
Although he has worked on his own music for years, Robbins said he spent a lot of time finding his voice as a songwriter and performer.
The Oscar winner has long written songs and performed in small venues, but has kept it under the radar until now.
"I have too much respect for music to put out something that wasn't coming from a genuine place," he said.
Before recording his first album Robbins wanted to "understand what my voice was and what kind of stories I wanted to tell. I think I'm ready to tell those stories now."
His North American concert tour kicked off last week in Vancouver. It is to wrap up Aug. 6 in Edmonton.
