LOS ANGELES, July 9 (UPI) -- Britain's Prince William scored four times during a polo match in California Saturday and accepted the winners' trophy from his new wife Kate.

The prince's dominance prompted the question of whether the fix was in for the "Foundation Polo Challenge" charity event at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club, but both his teammates and opponents rejected any such notion, USA Today reported.

"People may think it, but it was absolutely not fixed," teammate Andy Busch said. "[The opposing team] Audi was out to win that game, but our team had things go our way."

Likewise, Wesly Ru, who shadowed William for Audi, said his team didn't rollover for the royal.

"No, no, no, absolutely not," the newspaper quoted Ru as saying. "It wouldn't be fair to the prince to do that. He's a competitive polo player. Once you're out there it doesn't matter where you're from."

Ru said William didn't show any sign of being rusty. "He played hard and hit the ball hard," Ru said. "He was my guy to cover, I won't be able to live this down."

The duke and duchess of Cambridge arrived in Los Angeles Friday afternoon from a nine-day visit to Canada for a three-day stay largely to promote British arts and enterprises.

At an evening reception Friday, the prince told guests most of the questions he got about the couple's elaborate wedding two months ago were from men were about the Aston Martin car he drove afterward, the Los Angeles Times said.

Saturday evening, the couple were to attend a black-tie party for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, meant to promote British actors and crew to Hollywood executives, CNN said.

Before departing for London Sunday, the couple's agenda included a visit to a low-income Los Angeles neighborhood to tour an arts program for inner-city children.
