'Rock of Ages' starts filming in Fla.

BURBANK, Calif., June 7 (UPI) -- Principal photography has begun in Florida on the film adaptation of the Broadway musical "Rock of Ages," New Line Cinema announced.

Adam Shankman is directing the movie musical starring Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand, Mary J. Blige, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise.

"Rock of Ages" is about "small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock 'n' roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake, and more," a synopsis of the film said.

The movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
