BOSTON, June 2 (UPI) -- Actor Matt Damon says he is grateful to doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital who treated his father, Kent, for multiple myeloma.

People.com said Thursday the actor's 68-year-old father is in remission from the blood disease. The report did not say when the elder Damon was diagnosed or how long his treatment lasted.

"My family is so grateful for the care you've given us," Matt Damon said at the hospital's One Hundred Celebration at the Westin Hotel in Boston. "It's deeply humbling to see how many people here are committing their lives to helping others. ...

"We've lost some close personal friends to cancer in recent years, but I never thought it would happen to my dad, the marathon runner," the actor added. "It sucked."
