NEW YORK, May 28 (UPI) -- New Yorkers expressed some bemusement this week as the signs at their subway stations were replaced with throwback signs for the filming of "Men in Black III."
The new sci-fi comedy has Will Smith's Agent J traveling back in time to the 1950s, so the producers and the MTA replaced the current signage on some stations with the signs that appeared from the 1940s through 1970s.
The change meant that signs the normally list the trains by number now read, for example, "Queensborough-8th Ave."
"I don't know if I can get the 1, the 2 or the 3 down there," Jerry Raik, 64, told the New York Daily News. "I know that's the old sign, but … it still confused me."
Some old-timers said the retro signs were a fun reminder of the good old days, but younger New Yorkers told the Daily News they didn't pay much attention to the temporary changes.
