LOS ANGELES, May 24 (UPI) -- Canadian actress and model Estella Warren was "hammered" when she allegedly crashed her car and assaulted a police officer, a law-enforcement source told TMZ.

Warren, 32, is best known for her films "Planet of the Apes" and "Kangaroo Jack."

Police in Los Angeles told TMZ Warren was intoxicated when she crashed her Toyota Prius into three parked cars Monday night, then fled the scene.

The actress was apprehended but resisted arrest and allegedly kicked an officer, police said. She was then taken to a police station in handcuffs but managed to get out of the manacles and run out a back door during the booking process, police said.

She was quickly recaptured and booked for felony escape, assault, hit and run and driving under the influence, TMZ said.

"She was really hammered," the law-enforcement source told the Web site, describing Warren's condition at the time of her arrest.
