'Rio' flies, takes No. 1 box office spot

LOS ANGELES, April 17 (UPI) -- The animated "Rio," featuring the voice of Anne Hathaway among others, took the No. 1 spot at the weekend U.S. box office with $40 million.

"Scream 4," with an ensemble company headed by David Arquette, Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, was a distant second with more than $19.27 million.

All studio box office estimates of gross receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Hop" was still going strong in its third weekend with more than $11.16 million for third place.

"Soul Surfer" was fourth with $7.4 million; "Hanna" fifth with more than $7.32 million; "Arthur (2011)" sixth with $6.94 million; "Insidious" seventh with more than $6.85 million; "Source Code" eighth with $6.3 million; "The Conspirator" ninth with more than $3.92 million.

"Your Highness" rounded out the top 10 with more than $3.89 million.
