NEW YORK, April 7 (UPI) -- A New York man could face jail time after pleading guilty to illegally uploading "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" to the Internet before the film hit theaters.

Gilberto Sanchez, a musician from the Bronx, is accused of posting on the Web site Megaupload.com a pirated copy of the action flick he bought for $5 from a street vendor in 2009.

The New York Daily News said Sanchez, 48, could be sentenced in September to probation or as much as three years in prison for violating U.S. copyright law.

"I'm scared -- scared mainly for my parents," Sanchez told the newspaper. "They live with me and will have no place go. They'll be on the streets."

Sanchez admits he knew it "was a stupid thing to do."

"I wasn't thinking at the time. I regret it so much," he told the Daily News.
