MONTEREY, Calif., March 17 (UPI) -- A 1970 Porsche 911S driven by its owner, Steve McQueen, in the 1971 film "Les Mans" is headed for auction in California, the auctioneers said.

RM Auctions said the gray car, which will be sold as part of the auction house's annual sale in Monterey, is in excellent condition and includes air conditioning and a "full complement" of factory options.

The car was driven by McQueen in the opening sequence of "Les Mans." The Porsche also served as the actor's personal transportation during filming and became part of McQueen's personal collection.

"There is no more iconic racing film than Le Mans and no more charismatic owner of many of the world's great sports cars than Steve McQueen," said Rob Myers, chairman and founder of RM Auctions. "We are delighted to have been selected to present this iconic car at our upcoming Monterey sale. Combining a well-documented history with an exciting celebrity and screen provenance, it will make for a valuable addition to any notable car collection."

The auction is scheduled for Aug. 19-20.
