LOS ANGELES, March 5 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Alcon Entertainment says it is in final discussions to secure the rights to make sequels or prequels to the 1982 sci-fi classic, "Blade Runner."

Based on a story by Philip K. Dick, the original futuristic thriller was directed by Ridley Scott and starred Harrison Ford.

The Daily Telegraph said the production company Alcon is negotiating the rights from Bud Yorkin, an executive producer on the 1982 picture.

"We recognize the responsibility we have to do justice to the memory of the original with any prequel or sequel we produce," Alcon said in a statement. "We have long-term goals for the franchise, and are exploring multi-platform concepts, not just limiting ourselves to one medium only."

The Telegraph said it was unclear whether Ford will reprise his role of a police officer who chases after rebellious clones.
