PARIS, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- French actress Maria Schneider has died in Paris following a long illness, the BBC said Thursday. She was 58.
Exactly when and how Schneider died was not reported.
The daughter of actor Daniel Gelin is best known for her co-starring with Marlon Brando in 1972's "Last Tango in Paris," which sparked controversy with its explicit sex scenes.
Schneider battled an addiction to drugs in the 1970s, but went on to act in many European independent films, the BBC said. Her movie credits include "Madly," "The Passenger" and "Cliente."
