LOS ANGELES, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Three-time "Dancing with the Stars" champion Derek Hough will not compete next season because he

is working on a movie, the U.S. show's producers said.

Hough is to make his feature-film debut in "Cobu 3D," E! News said Tuesday.

"We wish Derek the best as he takes time off from 'Dancing with the Stars' to pursue his film career and look forward to having him return to the show in the Fall," "DWTS" executive producer Conrad Green said in a statement.

Season 12 is to begin in March.
