BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- "The Social Network" was declared the Best Drama Film at the Golden Globes ceremony in Beverly Hills, Calif., Sunday night.

The movie starred Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

"We're thrilled to be here," the film's producer Scott Rudin told the audience at the Beverly Hilton hotel. "I want to thank everybody at Facebook; Mark Zuckerberg for his willingness to allow us to use his life and work as a metaphor through which to tell a story about communication and the way we relate to each other."

David Fincher won the Best Director title for steering the film, while Aaron Sorkin picked up the prize for Best Screenplay for writing it.

"I had no idea when I finished this film five months ago that I might be here. Had I even dreamed, I would have been popping (the hair-growing drug) Propecia like Chiclets," he joked. "I have so many people to thank -- Aaron and Scott, thank you for giving me your baby."

Fincher also expressed his gratitude to the "absolutely stellar collection of designers, photographers, editors, musicians, costumers, painters, researchers, electricians, and crafts people, without whom I'd just be a bitter man with a lot of opinions."

Colin Firth and Natalie Portman picked up the Globes for Best Actor and Actress in a Drama Film.

"Thank you, Hollywood Foreign Press," said Firth, star of "The King's Speech." "Getting through the mid-stage of your life with your dignity and your judgment intact can be somewhat precarious and sometimes all you need is a little gentle reassurance to keep you on track and I don't know if this qualifies as gentle reassurance, but right now this is all that stands between me and a Harley Davidson, so I owe you a very great debt."

"This is such a great honor," said Portman, leading lady of "Black Swan." "Truly, the most wonderful experience of the whole reaction to this film is the chance to get to spend time with so many people in this room."

Melissa Leo and Christian Bale, co-stars in "The Fighter," won the awards for Best Supporting Actress and Actor in a Film.
