LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- British actor Daniel Craig is to reprise his role of secret agent James Bond in a 007 film to start shooting late this year, the movie's producers said.

Craig previously played Bond in "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace."

"American Beauty" filmmaker Sam Mendes -- who directed Craig in "Road to Perdition" in 2002 -- is to direct what will be the 23rd installment in the Bond franchise.

Details of the production were announced Tuesday by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions, together with Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, co-chairmen and chief executive officers of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.

The as-yet-untitled movie is set for release Nov. 9, 2012.
