LOS ANGELES, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Actor Joel McHale is to serve as host of the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, Calif., Film Independent said Wednesday.

The 26th edition of the awards ceremony honoring the previous year's best in low-budget filmmaking will be held Feb. 26. The show will air exclusively on IFC.

Nominees are to be revealed Nov. 30 by Eva Mendes and Jeremy Renner at The London West Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles.

"The Spirit Awards is not only a celebration of the year's filmmakers and their art, but it's also about bringing together our diverse filmmaking community in a fun and laid-back atmosphere," Film Independent Executive Director Dawn Hudson said in a statement. "We're so excited to have Joel on board as the host, and his quick wit, talent and charm makes him a perfect fit for our audiences."

"Joel's unique brand of comedy is perfectly in line with IFC's 'slightly off' sensibility,'" Jennifer Caserta, IFC executive vice president and general manager, said.

McHale is a cast member of NBC's "Community" and the star of E!'s "The Soup."
