Producer Dino De Laurentiis dead at 91

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Prolific Italian film producer Dino De Laurentiis has died at his Beverly Hills, Calif., home, his family said. He was 91.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed his death Thursday but did not say what the cause of it was.

Among the more than 500 film credits De Laurentiis amassed during his 70-year career are "La Strada," "Battle of the Bulge," "Barbarella," "Serpico," "Death Wish," "War and Peace," "Blue Velvet," "Dune" and several "Halloween," "Amityville Horror" and "Silence of the Lambs" sequels.

He was nominated for 35 Oscars and won two -- in 1956 "La Strada" won for foreign language film and in 2000 he was awarded the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial lifetime achievement award.

The producer is survived by his third wife, Martha, and six daughters. His only son, Federico, died in a 1981 plane crash and his granddaughter, Giada, is a celebrity chef on the Food Network, The Hollywood Reporter noted.
