
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Robert De Niro is to be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the upcoming Golden Globes telecast in Los Angeles, organizers said Tuesday.
De Niro is being recognized for his outstanding contribution to the entertainment field.
Philip Berk, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, was joined by Golden Globe Award-nominated actor Kevin Spacey in making the announcement regarding De Niro Tuesday morning.
The Cecil B. DeMille Award will be presented to the "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull" star at the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards show, which is to be broadcast live Jan. 16 on NBC from the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
British comedian Ricky Gervais is to serve as host of the event for the second consecutive year.
