LOS ANGELES, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- U.S. pop star Katy Perry and British comedian Russell Brand have flown to the Maldives for their honeymoon after marrying in India, UsMagazine.com said Monday.

The couple married Saturday on a tiger reserve after dating for more than a year.

"Russell Brand and Katy Perry are overjoyed to confirm that they were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Brand on Saturday, Oct. 23," said a statement issued by Perry's publicist. "The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couple's closest family and friends, was performed by a Christian minister and longtime friend of the Hudson family. The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of Northern India."

Perry's real maiden name is Hudson.
