Jolie defends Bosnia film story

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Angelina Jolie has been denied a filming permit for her directorial debut in Bosnia because she failed to submit a script with her application.

UsMagazine.com reported The Women Victims of War association also has said Jolie's story of a Serbian man and Bosnian woman who fall in love in the middle of the 1992-1995 war is "misleading history."

Some female victims of the Bosnian war have expressed their outrage over media reports claiming the main characters in the movie will be a Serbian rapist and his Muslim victim.

However, UsMagazine.com said Jolie released a statement Thursday refuting the rumors about her film's story line.

"There are many twists in the plot that address the sensitive nature of the relationship between the main characters, and that will be revealed once the film is released," Jolie said in the statement. "My hope is that people will hold judgment until they have seen the film."

The Web site said the movie's script has since been sent to Bosnia's Culture Ministry in hopes of securing a film permit.
