LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Zack Snyder will direct the next "Superman" movie, Hollywood's Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures said Monday.

Snyder's film credits include "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," "300" and "Watchmen."

The Hollywood Reporter said the studios and producer Christopher Nolan met with Darren Aronofsky, Ben Affleck, Matt Reeves and Tony Scott before starting negotiations with Snyder.

The last movie about the Man of Steel starred Brandon Routh and was released in 2006. Although it earned $200 million, it was considered a box-office disappointment and no sequels had been planned, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

The new film is being written by David Goyer, the report said.
