MADRAS, India, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- The priciest film ever made in India is set to make box-office history as "Endhiran" ("The Robot") hits theaters this weekend.
The science-fiction thriller, released Friday, stars Tamil screen legend Rajinikanth and Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai and is being shown in close to 2,000 theaters around the world, the BBC reported.
Rajinikanth, the 60-year-old "ageless superstar," has appeared in more than 100 pictures, but this one is meant to surpass all Indian filmmaking in terms of its technology and special effects. Producers claim the film, budgeted at $35 million, rivals the likes of Hollywood mainstays "Terminator" and "Godzilla."
Industry analysts have little doubt the film will break box-office records, the BBC said.
