Rooney Mara lands coveted 'Dragon' role

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Rooney Mara has been cast in the role of Lisbeth Salander in the big-screen adaptations of Stieg Larsson's "Millennium Trilogy" books, Sony said.

Mara recently appeared in "Youth in Revolt" and "A Nightmare on Elm Street." She will soon be seen in director David Fincher's Facebook film "The Social Network."

EW.com said Fincher will begin directing "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," the first book in the "Millennium" trilogy, next month in Sweden.

Daniel Craig and Robin Wright have already been cast as Mikael Blomkist and Erika Berger respectively, the Web site said.
