LOS ANGELES, July 6 (UPI) -- A Beverly Hills, Calif., judge sentenced actress Lindsay Lohan Tuesday to 90 days in jail and 90 days of in-patient rehabilitation for violating probation.

Lohan, 24, is best known for her roles in the movies "Mean Girls," "Freaky Friday" and "The Parent Trap."

Judge Marsha Revel said at a hearing Tuesday the actress failed to attend court-ordered alcohol education classes, thereby violating her probation in a 2007 driving under the influence conviction, ABC News reported on its Web site.

Lohan broke down in tears upon hearing the sentence, the report said.

She is scheduled to surrender July 20 to begin serving her sentence at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood.

However, Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told the Los Angeles Times women sent to jail for non-violent crimes usually serve 25 percent or less of their sentences because of overcrowding in the prison system.
