LOS ANGELES, June 17 (UPI) -- U.S. actress and pop star Miley Cyrus is to star in a big-screen adaptation of Lisa McMann's young adult novel "Wake," The Hollywood Reporter said.

Paramount Pictures and MTV Films are making the film version of McMann's paranormal thriller and have secured the right to its sequels for possible future movies.

Cyrus, whose film credits include "Hannah Montana: The Movie" and "The Last Song," will play a 17-year-old girl named Janie who has the unwanted ability to appear in people's dreams, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The book "Wake" is followed by the sequels "Fade" and "Gone."
