LOS ANGELES, April 7 (UPI) -- Screen Media says it has acquired the North American television, DVD and digital rights to Peter Bratt's film "La Mission," starring Benjamin Bratt.
The company said it made the deal with Josh Braun of Submarine Entertainment and Kevin Iwashina of Hunting Lane Films.
The movie is to be released theatrically by Global Cinema Distribution, beginning Friday with 25 screens in 10 markets including New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
"This film has been a labor of love for everyone involved, and we're looking forward to having it seen by the widest audience possible," Benjamin Bratt, who is Peter Bratt's brother and a producer on the drama, said in a statement Wednesday.
"'La Mission' is the story of Che Rivera, a San Francisco bus driver respected in his Mission district barrio for building beautiful low-rider cars, yet feared for his tough and machismo ways," a synopsis of the film said. "A reformed inmate and recovering alcoholic, Che's path to redemption is tested when he discovers that his pride and joy, his only child, Jesse -- played by Jeremy Ray Valdez -- is gay."
