BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., March 31 (UPI) -- Film star Sidney Poitier was involved in a car accident this week but was not injured, said police in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 83-year-old actor's Monday collision was reported by TMZ Wednesday.

"Poitier was driving a dark colored Mercedes Benz northbound when it collided with a dark colored Porsche," said a police statement.

The entertainment news Web site said a passenger in the Porsche was transported to UCLA Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the collision is under investigation.

Poitier became the first black man to win an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1963. He took home the prize for his work in "Lilies of the Field." His other film credits include "To Sir, with Love," "In the Heat of the Night" and "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner."
