LOS ANGELES, March 26 (UPI) -- Cancer-stricken actor Dennis Hopper was honored Friday with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, organizers said.

The 73-year-old film icon has been battling prostate cancer and his lawyer said recently he was too weak to give a deposition in his divorce case.

His doctor reportedly said Hopper's attendance at Friday's event would be a positive experience for him.

People.com said the 2,403rd star along Hollywood Boulevard was presented to him at the ceremony.

On hand to pay tribute to the ailing actor were Jack Nicholson, Viggo Mortensen, David Lynch, Michael Madsen, Danny Trejo, Johnny Mathis and Dwight Yoakam, E! News reported.

"Everyone here today that I've invited (has) enriched my life tremendously," Hopper said. "They've shown me a world that I would never have seen being a farm boy from Dodge City, Kan., and learning things I would never have learned.

"Everything I've learned in my life I learned from you and the wonderful world that I traveled and saw. ... Well, I got it all from you. This has been my home and my school. And I love all of you. I just want to thank you. This means so much to me, and thank you very much, everyone."

The actor -- whose film credits include "Rebel Without a Cause," "True Grit," "Easy Rider" and "Apocalypse Now" -- recently starred in the television series "Crash."
