HBO renews Gervais show for 2nd season

LOS ANGELES, March 24 (UPI) -- HBO has renewed the animated series "The Ricky Gervais Show" for a second season, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The show is based on the podcast recordings featuring the British comedian, and his cohorts Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington discussing various topics.

HBO previously aired Gervais' live-action comedy series "Extras." He recently served as host of the Golden Globe Awards ceremony and starred in the films "Ghost Town" and "The Invention of Lying."
