LAS VEGAS, March 19 (UPI) -- James Cameron and Jon Landau have won the 2nd annual RealD Innovation in 3D Award at a ShoWest ceremony in Las Vegas.
Writer-director-producer Cameron and producer Landau were recognized for their extraordinary contribution to 3D cinema with the 2009 feature film release of "Avatar," RealD said.
The award was presented to Landau Thursday night by RealD Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael V. Lewis.
"'Avatar' is a testament to the 3D vision and craftsmanship James and Jon worked tirelessly on for a decade," Lewis said in presenting the award. "Their trailblazing development of new technology and use of 3D to draw people inside their fantastic journey has truly brought the magic back to cinema."
"We are thrilled to receive this honor from RealD," Landau remarked. "RealD has been a leader driving quality digital 3D exhibition and for that we are eternally grateful."
"Avatar," a nominee for the best picture Oscar, is currently the top-grossing worldwide feature film of all time.
