ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 17 (UPI) -- The world premiere of the big-screen adaptation of the novel "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" is to take place at Virginia's Riverside Elementary School, organizers said.
The film's stars, Zachary Gordon and Robert Capron, and the book's author, Jeff Kinney, are expected to attend Thursday's event in the Alexandria school's gym, Twentieth Century Fox said.
"The lucky school won a contest sponsored by the School Library Journal and National Education Association to host the premiere for their students," Fox said in a news release Tuesday. "Over 5,000 schools entered to win."
The movie is to open in U.S. theaters Friday.
