LONDON, March 12 (UPI) -- U.S. actor John Malkovich has been cast as an Austrian serial killer in the London stage production of "The Infernal Comedy," the BBC said.

Malkovich's screen credits include "Places in the Heart," "In the Line of Fire," "The Killing Fields," "Dangerous Liaisons," "Con Air," "The Man in the Iron Mask" and "Being John Malkovich."

The BBC said he will star in the one-man show about real-life serial killer Jack Unterweger next year at the Barbican Center.

"Part of the reason I picked it was the issue of how people like that, monsters like that, can get away with crimes like that," the theater's artistic director, Graham Sheffield, told the British broadcaster. "The reason we put on something like that is it has a pretty shocking relevance to some of things going on in society."
