Osborne to be Oscar guest greeter

LOS ANGELES, March 3 (UPI) -- Film historian and television personality Robert Osborne is to welcome guests on the red carpet at Sunday's Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles, organizers said.

"Being on Oscar's red carpet is unlike any other experience," Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak said in a statement. "Robert is the perfect person to welcome our guests and ease them into a night of spectacular celebration."

This will be Osborne's fifth stint as a host on the red carpet for the Academy.

Sunday's gala will honor the best of film for 2009. It is to be held at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center.
