LOS ANGELES, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Turner Classic Movies says it will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Akira Kurosawa with a 24-hour marathon of the Japanese director's films.
TCM said it will show more than two dozen of Kurosawa's movies throughout March, with the 24-hour marathon to take place March 23, the anniversary of Kurosawa's birth. He died in 1998.
"There are many reasons the name Akira Kurosawa means so much in the world of moviemaking, and we're going to be showing 26 of those reasons this month on Turner Classic Movies," TCM host Robert Osborne said in a statement. "It's the largest gathering of Kurosawa films we've ever shown in a retrospective of his work, and we couldn't be more excited."
Among Kurosawa's films to be screened on TCM are "Seven Samurai," "The Hidden Fortress," "Rashomon" and "Throne of Blood."
