LONDON, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- British actor Andy Serkis will star in a motion-capture film version of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's musical "The Threepenny Opera," Empire Online said.

Serkis, 45, is best known for his work in the "Lord of the Rings" movies, the epic "King Kong" and TV's "Little Dorrit."

Screen Daily said Serkis confirmed he is working with Australian rocker Nick Cave on the "Threepenny" project in Berlin, where he was promoting his new film "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll."

"It's nice to announce it in its hometown," Serkis reportedly said of "Threepenny," which was first performed on the German stage in 1928.

Empire Online said it is unclear exactly what role Cave will play in bringing it to the big screen.
