LOS ANGELES, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- U.S. novelist Dennis Lehane is working with Fox 2000 to adapt one of his tales for the big screen for the first time, Variety reported.

Although Lehane's books "Mystic River," "Gone Baby Gone" and "Shutter Island" have been made into movies, other scribes have penned the screenplays for them.

Variety said Lehane is working on a script for a film version of "Animal Rescue," a short story that appeared in the anthology "Boston Noir," which he edited.

Lehane has some previous screenwriting experience, having worked on the HBO drama "The Wire," which ran from 2002 to 2008.
