'Bone' a big winner at Sundance Festival

PARK CITY, Utah, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Judges at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah said the U.S. film "Winter's Bone" earned the festival's grand jury prize and a Waldo Salt screenwriting award.

The Los Angeles Times said Sunday the film from writer/director Debra Granik earned a grand jury prize in the festival's U.S. dramatic category, while "Restrepo" from Sebastian Junger's and Tim Hetherington won the U.S. documentary grand jury prize.

Among the annual festival's world category winners Saturday were the Australian film "Animal Kingdom," which earned a grand jury dramatic award, and the Danish film "The Red Chapel," winner of the festival's grand jury prize for best world documentary.

Meanwhile, the Sundance audience awards for best U.S. documentary and dramatic film went to "Waiting for Superman" and "happythankyoumoreplease" respectively.

The film "Wasteland" from Alice Walker earned the world cinema audience prize for documentary, while Javier Fuentes-Leon took home the world cinema audience award for best drama for his film "Undertow," the Times said.
