FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Actress-singer Connie Francis said returning to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to honor her film "Where the Boys Are" brought back memories of making the 1960 film.
Francis, who played Angie in the coming-of-age film, helped announce plans for the "Where the Boys Are: Connie Francis' Great American Beach Party" along with Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel said Saturday.
Francis said Friday her first impression of Fort Lauderdale when she arrived to film "Boys" was of a quiet city not yet overwhelmed by students on spring break.
"This place is a morgue," Francis said of her initial thoughts of the Florida city.
Seiler said the "Beach Party" celebration will take place the Memorial Day weekend of May 28 and 29.
The Sun-Sentinel said the weekend event will include hula parties, live music and a beach screening of the film that inspired scores of spring break visitors to Fort Lauderdale.
