The intensely private couple, who co-starred in the 2009 film "The Last Station," married in 2006.
Their spokesman, Rupert Fowler, told the BBC they had no further comment to make and no other details regarding Duff's pregnancy would be released at this time.
McAvoy's big-screen credits include "Becoming Jane," "Atonement," "The Last King of Scotland" and "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." He is 30.
Duff, 39, has appeared in the movie "Nowhere Boy," and British TV's "Margot" and "Shameless."
