LOS ANGELES, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Johnny Depp's publicist says online rumors claiming the Hollywood actor died in a car wreck in France during the weekend are untrue.

E! News said fans took to their Twitter pages to post "RIP Johnny Depp" messages after reading the fake report.

"He isn't dead," the actor's representative, Robin Baum, told E! News. "He's fine."

Depp, 46, is best known for his work in "Edward Scissorhands," "Ed Wood," "Sleepy Hollow," "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," "Sweeney Todd" and "The Pirates of the Caribbean" film franchise.
