Fox: 'Avatar' beats 'Titanic' record

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Twentieth Century Fox says James Cameron's sci-fi picture "Avatar" has beaten his blockbuster "Titanic" at the international box office.

The 1997 epic romance-disaster flick, which Cameron also directed, was the highest-grossing movie of all time at the international box office, earning $1.24 billion during its international theatrical run.

As of this weekend, however, E! News said "Avatar" has earned $1.29 billion at the international box office to set a new record.
