BELFAST, Northern Ireland, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- "Killing Bono," a movie about a rock band that tried to get off the ground at the same time U2 was getting started, is to be shot in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The Belfast Telegraph reported Saturday that "Killing Bono" will be based on the autobiography "I Was Bono's Doppelganger" by Neil McCormick, a reference to U2's lead singer Bono.

McCormick attempted to start a band in Ireland in the 1970s when U2 was formed and started building momentum toward eventual international success.

Filming on the project is to begin Jan. 11 with Ben Barnes taking on the role of McCormick. Robert Sheehan will play McCormick's brother and band mate, Ivan.

Nick Hamm will direct "Killing," which will be based on a screenplay written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais.

The Telegraph said the film's soundtrack has been placed in the hands of musician Joe Echo, who earned a Grammy Award nomination for helping write the song "Celebration" for U.S. pop star Madonna.
