NEW YORK, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Actor Matthew Modine has joined the cast of the upcoming Broadway production of "The Miracle Worker," the show's producers said Monday.

The revival of William Gibson's play, based on a true story, is to star Abigail Breslin as the blind and deaf Helen Keller and Alison Pill as her teacher Annie Sullivan. Modine is to make his Broadway debut playing Keller's father.

Previews are to begin Feb. 12 at Manhattan's Circle in the Square Theatre. The play is to open March 3.

Modine's movie credits include "And the Band Played On," "Short Cuts," "Married to the Mob," "Full Metal Jacket" and "Vision Quest."

Jennifer Morrison from TV's "House M.D." and theater veteran Elizabeth Franz are also slated to join "The Miracle Worker" ensemble.
