'Princess' up for 8 Annie Awards

BURBANK, Calif., Dec. 2 (UPI) -- "The Princess and the Frog" received eight nominations, including one for best animated feature, when Annie Award nods were announced in Los Angeles.

Disney's latest cartoon musical, which stars Anika Noni Rose, earned mentions for animated effects, character animation, production design and voice acting, as well, the International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood said Tuesday.

Also nominated for best animated feature are "Coraline," "Up," "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "The Secret of Kells."

The nominees for best animated television production produced for children are "SpongeBob SquarePants," "The Mighty B!," "The Penguins of Madagascar," "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" and "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack."

Shortlisted for the best animated television production are "Glenn Martin, DDS," "Merry Madagascar," "Prep and Landing" and "The Simpsons."

Prize winners are scheduled to be announced at the 37th annual Annie Awards ceremony Feb. 6 at UCLA's Royce Hall in Los Angeles.
